🇨🇦 What is AIDA and why does it matter?

Canada is stepping forward with the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) – our first national framework to regulate AI. Introduced in 2022 as part of Bill C-27, AIDA is designed to strike a balance between trust and innovation in a rapidly evolving digital world.

🔹 Why AIDA?

AI is already shaping healthcare, hiring, banking, and the way Canadians interact online. While it brings opportunities, risks like bias, discrimination, and unsafe applications can erode public trust. AIDA ensures AI systems used in Canada are safe, transparent, and aligned with our values.

🔹 What does it cover?

Artificial Intelligence and Data Act focuses on high-impact AI systems – those that affect people’s health, safety, rights, or access to essential services. Examples include hiring tools, biometric identification, content recommendation engines, and autonomous driving systems.

🔹 How will it work?

🔹 Global Alignment

Canada is working closely with partners like the EU, US, and UK to align AI standards so Canadian businesses can compete internationally while protecting citizens at home.

AIDA is about building trust in AI by ensuring responsible innovation. It’s Canada’s way of making sure AI works for people, not against them.
